The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain has updated the list Substances of Misuse which was last reviewed in 2004. The revised list, available on the Society’s website, provides details of: non-medicinal products; general sale list medicines; pharmacy medicines;prescription-only medicines; and controlled drugs and chemicals that could potentially bemisused. The list also incorporates details of products that could be used to make fireworks and explosives.
Commenting on the updated list, Sadia Khan, the Society’s Lead Pharmacist for Self Care,said: “Pharmacists have a professional responsibility to ensure that they do not supply any products where there are reasonable grounds for suspecting misuse. Almost any substance can bemisused and the guidance is not meant to be exhaustive; however this list is a useful reference to help pharmacists identify areas they may need to be aware of.”
